Equipment

Check out the equipment that we use while on charter. All of the equipment that has been chosen has been designed to make sure that you have the most favorable Florida Keys fishing experience possible.

The Big Dawg

The Big Dawg is a 2003 Conch 27′ center console powered by new 2010 twin 300 hp Yamaha 4-strokes. It features state of the art Garmin and Furuno electronics and is outfitted with the best rods, reels and tackle.

The Lead Dawg

The Lead Dawg is a 17′ Maverick Flats Skiff fitted with a Yamaha 90hp HDPI. It is set up for two anglers.

Rods

The Big Dawg Fishing Team uses handcrafted, custom built Knightstick rods crafted by Jim Knight. Jim uses Fuji blanks and is very precise in building every rod to our specifications.

We generally use light tackle spinning rods for offshore and reef fishing. His Roller Guide Rods are excellent for deep drops, when fishing for huge Muttons and Groupers.

We have found that the custom Knightstick leads our anglers to many more catches. Jim has also built the Big Dawg Fishing Team a custom Kite Rod for live baiting Sailfish. He has also supplied the new Conch 27 with custom made Gaffs.
Reels

We use an assortment of spinning and conventional Reels. The Daiwa SS 2600 is great for 12 pound spinning and helps stop Big Kings and Cobias. The Shimano Trinidad works nicely when deep fishing over wrecks. Loaded with 20 or 30 pound line, the 7500 Penn Spinning reels are good for shallow wrecks in the Gulf.
